What Are the Surrey, BC and Vancouver, BC Crime Statistics?

Any changes due to COVID? Organized crime groups and gangs in British Columbia are changing how they run and operate their illegal businesses due to COVID-19 pandemic. Police in British Columbia says that they have seen changes in crime patterns since lockdowns started.

There has been a notable drop in residential break-ins since March of this year. Home break-ins reduced from 114 to 74 in 2020.

There has been, however, a huge spike in commercial and business break-ins. This is because many more people are at home and working remotely, and many businesses have reduced hours.

There hasn’t been a major increase in criminal violence, such as shootings, with gang groups more noticeable on the streets. Vancouver Police Investigators are working to know how criminals in Surrey, British Columbia, and Vancouver are penetrating locked-down borders. Selling illegal drugs to the streets has been a critical challenge.

COVID-19 has brought economic changes in both Surrey and Vancouver similar to the changes seen in other big cities worldwide. This has resulted in the criminals or thieves having to change their business models, according to the CTV news analysis of Vancouver crime database. The primary commodities of the gangs are tougher to get because borders are locked down for movement and trade of goods and people.

Surrey has identified a spike in domestic violence calls and sexual offences, although in Surrey, British Columbia, and Vancouver overall crime has been reduced slightly. It seems that some criminals are following public health advice.

Different kinds of thefts have dropped to around fifty-five per cent across these cities. Vehicle theft has dropped drastically from around 116 thefts per week to just 60 thefts weekly.
